My history in Family History: Why am I here on a mission?
Unlike Jerrol, I am no expert in
family history. When I was called to be a consultant, I got the training, but
did little actual work on my own. I would get frustrated so easily and
almost developed a phobia about it. I dreaded going to the library or
logging onto Family Search. It wasn't until they put photos and stories
on the Tree that I got into it.
That's the whole purpose of our mission, I found out in our training.
We are to teach that they are taking down the barriers to Family History -
start with the stories and the photos: "the heart before the chart."
That's how it happened with me.
I saw a photo of Ann Green on Family Tree.
She is my 3rd Great Grandmother on Mom's line. She just jumped off the screen when I saw her picture I immediately felt a real connection to her. I feel like she is a guardian angel for me sometimes.
So I have been working on the Green and Dutson families and found two names: William Green, son of William Green Jr. (Ann Green's {Dutson} brother); and Lettie Burton, William Green Jr.'s granddaughter, daughter of Phoebe Green and John Burton. She was adopted. Matt's kids are going to do the baptisms next month. I haven't found many names yet, but it's exciting!
So, why am I here? To share what I have learned: There is a great feeling in doing Family History. It isn't hard with all the improvement in the technology and they are making advances every week. I love the stories! I have been reading about the Greens and the Dutsons in books I found on Family Search. Go to familysearch.org. Go to Search, then Books and type in Dutson. Great stories!
